Where It All Started: Stick Figures and SQLite Errors

Summer 2025. My first attempt at building a boxing game.

I had zero experience with Unity, zero experience with C#, and exactly two scripts: FightEngine.cs and Fighter.cs. The 'fighters' were blue and red squares. Then I upgraded to stick figures with red boxing gloves. Peak game design.

The fight simulator had sliders for Power, Speed, and Stamina. You'd click 'SIMULATE FIGHT' and get a wall of Debug.Log messages: 'Fighter 2 punch 4: Landed=True, Power=False, Blocked=False'. The referee would stop fights 'on the doctor's advice.'

I tried using SQLite for the database. Got nothing but SqliteException errors. Duplicate namespace definitions. Unassigned reference exceptions. The console was a Christmas tree of red.

I shelved the entire project. Thought maybe game dev just wasn't for me.

Seven months later, I'd build the whole thing in 8 weeks with AI.

Before the stick figures, there were colored squares. Blue square vs Red square. With a compile error at the bottom.

A typical day — CS0101, CS0579, CS0111. Nothing compiled. Nothing worked.
