Honest comparison

There hasn’t been a new Fight Night since 2011.

Fight Night Champion shipped in March 2011 on PS3 and Xbox 360, and EA hasn’t announced another one since. On Xbox you can still buy it. On PC or PlayStation you can’t play it at all. ChampChase isn’t Fight Night — it’s a pixel-art boxing RPG on iPhone and Android, built by one person. But it has the part people actually miss: a story campaign with a voice in it. Free while it’s in beta.

WHAT HAPPENED TO FIGHT NIGHT

Five games, seven years, then nothing for fifteen. Published by EA Sports, developed across EA Chicago and EA Canada:

  • 2004Fight Night 2004 — PS2, Xbox
  • 2005Fight Night Round 2 — PS2, Xbox, GameCube
  • 2006Fight Night Round 3 — PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, PSP
  • 2009Fight Night Round 4 — Xbox 360, PS3
  • 2011Fight Night Champion — Xbox 360, PS3

Where it stands today, accurately: Fight Night Champion is still purchasable on the Xbox store at $19.99, runs on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility, and is included with EA Play. It was added to backward compatibility in May 2018.

There is no PC version and no PS4 or PS5 version — there never was one for PC, and PS3 titles do not run on modern PlayStation hardware. So “how do I play Fight Night Champion” has a real answer on Xbox and no answer anywhere else.

As of July 2026, EA has not announced a new Fight Night game. There has been reporting and speculation; none of it is an announcement, so none of it is repeated here.

No affiliation. ChampChase is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Electronic Arts or EA Sports. Fight Night is named here for comparison only, and every claim above is sourced at the bottom of this page.

THE PART PEOPLE MISS

It usually isn’t the punch control people bring up fifteen years later. It’s Champion Mode — a scripted story starring a fighter called Andre Bishop, written by the Academy-Award-nominated screenwriter Will Rokos. EA called it the first story mode in EA Sports history, and it earned the first M rating EA Sports ever received.

A boxing game that told you a story, and meant it. That is the thing that has not been replaced.

ChampChase is not a remake of that and does not pretend to be. What it shares is the intent: 106 voiced scenes and 1002 voiced lines across six chapters, a written campaign that runs from a hospital bed to a world title, with the fights in between. Every line has a voice on it.

What it does not share: photoreal 3D, licensed real boxers, and full punch control. This is a pixel-art RPG where you set the game plan and the round resolves.

Story dialogue with Pop in his gym
Voiced story between fights.
Knockout — opponent down as the referee waves it off
And the fights in between.

“FIGHT NIGHT FOREVER”

If you have run into that name while searching: Fight Night Forever is a fan-made modding project for the 2011 game Fight Night Champion, made by an independent community team. It is not an official EA product and it is not sold on any storefront.

That is the whole of what can be said about it accurately, so that is where this stops.

WHAT CHAMPCHASE IS NOT

  • Not a Fight Night successor. Nobody handed this anything. It is an unrelated game by one person that happens to care about the same thing.
  • Not a simulation. No licensed fighters, no photoreal 3D, no per-punch control.
  • Not on console or PC. If you want Champion specifically, an Xbox is the honest answer — not this.
  • No live multiplayer. Single-player; the arena and league brackets are simulated opponents.
  • Not finished. Beta art and voice are AI placeholders, being replaced with original pixel art and real voice actors before launch.
  • Not the only option on a phone. Punch Club is a pay-once, pixel-art, story-driven boxing management sim that has been on mobile for a decade. Boxing Star and Real Boxing 2 are the free-to-play leaders and both ship story modes — both also sell in-app purchases.

IF THE STORY WAS THE PART YOU LIKED

That is the part this one is built around. Free while it is in beta — iPhone takes about two minutes through TestFlight, Android goes through Google Play and the link is sent by hand.

SOURCES

Every claim about Fight Night on this page was checked against a primary source on the date above. Storefront pricing and availability change — if you are reading this much later, check the store.

  • Fight Night Champion’s release date, platforms, Champion Mode, Andre Bishop, Will Rokos, the “first story mode in EA Sports history” claim, the M rating and the 50+ licensed boxers — EA’s own launch press release.
  • Current price, Xbox One / Series X|S compatibility and EA Play inclusion — the live Fight Night Champion listing on the Xbox store.
  • Backward-compatibility date — contemporaneous reporting from May 2018.
  • Series titles and release years — the individual game records, corroborated against ESRB rating listings.
  • No newer title and no announcement — EA’s own Fight Night page, which lists Champion and nothing after it.
  • Fight Night Forever — the project team’s own public description of it as a Fight Night Champion modding project.

Deliberately not included: review scores, delisting claims, and unconfirmed reports about a future Fight Night. None of those could be verified to a primary source, so none of them are on this page.
